Graduation

When I graduate from college I plan on working at a financial firm. However, it is hard for me to decide what I really want to do with my life. I am currently under accounting, but I am thinking about switching to finance because I feel that my interest in accounting will eventually decrease and I am going to end up hating my job.
With accounting the job opportunities are endless. You can be an account analyst where you:

  1. Performs corporate consolidation and prepares financial statements.
  2. Coordinates the monthly corporate accounting close.
  3. Maintains the general ledger and account reconciliations.
  4. Determines the appropriate accounting for new transactions and changed conditions.
  5. Documents and reengineers accounting polices and procedures.
  6. Provides support for SEC reporting.
  7. Performs technical accounting research including evaluation and implementation of emerging financial reporting requirements and accounting standards.
  8. Performs other special projects as required.
or you can be an Tax Analyst where you:
  1. Coordinates preparation and review of Federal, state and local income tax returns for all Corporate entities and for partnerships for which the one of the Companies is the Tax Matters Partner.
  2. Prepares/reviews monthly and quarterly income tax provisions prepared in accordance with SFAS 109.
  3. Assists in the preparation of the projected income tax expense and cash flow analysis.
  4. Prepares consolidated and separate company quarterly income tax estimates.
  5. Oversees optimum deployment of technology in automating all appropriate aspects of the tax function.
  6. Performs tax research projects under the direction of the Tax Compliance Manager.
  7. Maintains and expands level of professional competence through monitoring technical developments and participation in professional seminars.
and much more. I found all of these job description on this website: http://www.accounting-jobs.com/careers.htm
As of right now I am focusing on graduating and getting my degree and hopefully I can figure out which accounting/finance company I want to work for. If I change my major to finance my goal is to work for Prudential where I do investment plans and retirement plans for people.
